Frequently Asked Questions

We get these questions quite a bit. If you need any additional info please be sure to reach out!

While in flight, drones over 250g or are commecially operated are required by the FAA to broadcast a Remote ID signal which includes identification and location information of the drone and the pilot. Edge Scout can detect those signals. More from FAA: https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/remote_id
While Remote ID-compliant drones represent most of the sUAS in the sky, at present, yes. However, we will be releasing firmware updates in the coming months that will extend the detection modalities to include popular flight controllers such as BetaFlight, PX4, and others. These updates will be made available as they are developed.
The range varies greatly based on environmental factors and transmit power of the UAS. With the antenna included with our Edge Scouts and under ideal conditions, we have picked up drones around a kilometer away.
The antenna we install on Edge Scout complies with the hardware’s FCC certification. It is possible to replace the antenna with any antenna with an RP-SMA connector. However, it is important to understand and follow the laws and regulations of your area. With alternative antennas, ranges exceeding 7 Km have been observed.
Not at all. Utilizing multiple Edge Scouts will expand your coverage and will synchronize all the latest detection data.
