How the Edge Scout plugin for the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK) collects, uses, and protects your information.
Effective date: June 24, 2026
Last updated: June 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Nine Hill Technologies ("Nine Hill," "NHT," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Edge Scout plugin for the Android Team Awareness Kit ("ATAK," and the plugin, the "Plugin"). The Plugin connects to Edge Scout counter-UAS sensors and presents drone detection data within the ATAK environment on your device. By installing or using the Plugin, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
The Plugin is designed to operate primarily on your device and on your team's TAK network. It receives drone detection and telemetry data from Edge Scout sensors and renders that data on the ATAK map. By default, detection data stays on your device and is shared only across the TAK network you connect to. You may optionally enable synchronization with the Edge View cloud platform; that synchronization is off until you turn it on.
The Plugin handles the following categories of information:
βDevice location
The Plugin accesses your device's GPS/location so it can place you on the ATAK map, orient detections relative to your position, and associate detections with a location. Location is used while the Plugin is in use to provide its core functionality.
βDrone detection and telemetry data
Data produced by Edge Scout sensors, which may include drone and operator positions, flight paths, approximate altitude, horizontal and vertical speed, drone and receiver serial numbers, UAS ID, and drone make and model where available. This data describes detected aircraft and is generated by the sensors, not by you.
βSensor and configuration data
Identifiers and settings needed to pair with and manage your Edge Scout sensors, such as device names, firmware versions, and network/connection settings you configure.
βAccount data (only if cloud sync is enabled)
If you choose to connect the Plugin to the Edge View cloud platform, we process the credentials and account identifiers associated with your Edge View account so your detections can be synchronized to your account.
We use the information above to:
βDisplay your position and detected drones on the ATAK map
βDeliver real-time drone awareness from your Edge Scout sensors to your team's TAK network
βPair, configure, name, and manage your Edge Scout sensors
βSynchronize detections with Edge View, only when you enable that option
βMaintain, troubleshoot, and improve the reliability and security of the Plugin
You control how detection and telemetry data is shared. The Plugin supports two modes, and you can configure which applies:
βLocal / TAK network only (default)
Detection data remains on your device and is shared only across the TAK network you connect to. In this mode, Nine Hill does not receive your detection data through the Plugin.
βEdge View cloud sync (optional, user-enabled)
If you enable cloud sync, detection data is transmitted to the Edge View platform and associated with your Edge View account, where it is handled under the Edge View terms and privacy practices. You can disable cloud sync at any time in the Plugin settings.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising. We share information only in these limited circumstances:
βYour TAK network: data you broadcast is shared with the devices and servers on the network you connect to, as is inherent to how TAK works.
βService providers: vendors who host or support the Edge View platform, acting on our behalf and under contract, when cloud sync is enabled.
βLegal and safety: when required by law, regulation, or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or Nine Hill.
Data held locally on your device or on your TAK network persists according to your own device and network configuration and is removed when you delete it or uninstall the Plugin. Detection data synchronized to Edge View is retained for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide the service, after which it is deleted or de-identified in accordance with the Edge View retention practices, unless a longer period is required by law.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information handled by the Plugin and the Edge View platform. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for securing your device, your ATAK configuration, and the networks you connect to.
The Plugin uses ATAK's granted permissions needed for its functionality, including location access and network access. You may grant or revoke permissions through your device settings; revoking location access will limit or disable core features of the Plugin.
The Plugin is distributed both through the Google Play Store and as a direct download (sideloaded APK). When installed from Google Play, the Plugin and its data handling are also described in the Play Store Data Safety section. When sideloaded, you are responsible for obtaining the Plugin from a legitimate Nine Hill source and for applying updates, which may include important security fixes.
The Plugin is intended for professional and operational use by adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, or to object to certain processing, under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA). We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any available rights, contact us using the details below; we will respond consistent with applicable law and may need to verify your identity first.
Nine Hill is based in the United States. If you use the Plugin with Edge View cloud sync enabled, your information may be processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Plugin after an update means you accept the revised policy.
